The 40 Pink Cats Project is a synthesis of all things I love: cats, the color pink, art, meeting cats, photographing cats and writing. I wanted to invite Portland and East Coast kitties to my 40th birthday party by sharing 40 pink felt catnip-filled cats with those who are special to us and also new feline friends.
I hand-sewed 40 pink felt cats and stuffed them with organic catnip. I took all photographs mostly during adventures with Ian who was my assistant. In the past, we have shared catnip Valentine hearts for Valentine's Day, bunny peeps and eggs for Easter with our friends. Thank you to all the kitties for making my birthday party so pink and purrfect!

We went to visit Magic, but he is a very elusive cat. Whenever he isn’t around, we like to think he sends a proxy in his place. This time, it was a fluffy sweet orange cat, Myrtle.
This is Morgan, the fluffiest cat in Portland with the tiniest mew. Whenever we see him, he starts out clean, and then he gets excited and rolls in leaves, grass, dirt… But we don’t care, we want to pet him no matter what.
This kitty was probably the most excited of all the parking lot cats. She did so many rollies that it was nearly impossible to get a shot that wasn’t blurry.
This polite black kitty waited patiently until he got his pink cat. When he received it, he was so happy. And so were we.
Usually the Guard Cat for the parking lot, this kitty took time off to join the birthday party and play with a pink cat.
This sweet and friendly Siamese cat is one of the four cats in the parking lot that we visit frequently. After a quick stand-off between two kitties that was quickly diffused, all four kitties in the lot had a pink cat of their own. One of the funniest moments was when a car passing by with a child slowed down and the child screamed and pointed at the all the cats, “I want to go there! Let me out!”
We found this sweet ball of fluff hissing at another cat on a street corner. The other cat ran away and we pet her and she played happily with a pink cat instead.
This white tabby was super playful and very excited about his pink cat. He seemed happiest when it was thrown in the air and he could catch it.
This is Tortoise Cat. We saw her from a block away and started coming towards us meowing. We were instant friends.
This Momma cat was very sweet and watched patiently as her son went crazy with his pink cat. She was finally able to enjoy her own.
